Zoo defends its care of Bamboo

Woodland Park Zoo officials “vigorously dispute” claims that they are not providing sufficient care for Bamboo, a 39-year-old Asian elephant who grew up at the zoo, was transferred to Tacoma last summer and returned to Seattle this month.

Bamboo is back at Woodland Park Zoo

Fitting in can be difficult for elephants. At least that’s been the case lately with Bamboo, the 39-year-old, 8,000-pound Asian elephant who moved from the Woodland Park Zoo to the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma last August because she wasn’t getting along with another, much younger elephant there.
